What is ketogenic diet, and how can it benefit me?
In a nutshell, keto diet is a low carb, moderate protein, high fat diet, with a typical ratio of 10% carb, 20% protein, 70% fat. It has received a lot of attention because of it’s weight loss effect and high profile athletes using it for energy and athletic performance. It has also shown promises for blood sugar management, mental focus and heart health.
The diet triggers a natural energy consumption switch from primarily carb to fat, known as ketosis.
The fat for keto diet must be from high quality sources to be beneficial, for example, avocado, unsaturated fat, medium chain triglyceride (MCT), coconuts, nuts and seeds.
