The Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site is pleased to announce our Parks Canada Free Admission Day on Saturday October 6th. Visit the interactive museum on Canada’s west coast fishing history for free, from 10am to 5pm.
As an added bonus, we present a Salmon Science Expo to celebrate this season’s return of the salmon. The expo will feature hands-on stations on salmon science, presented in partnership with the Pacific Salmon Commission, Fraser River Discovery Centre, and the BC Wildlife Federation.
Examine salmon scales under a microscope, learn how to test water samples, and investigate the science of estuary building. Games and activities about the salmon life cycle suitable for kids of all ages will also be offered. Don’t forget to pick up your free Salmon Life Cycle poster from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.
Shannon King, Manager of Audience Engagement, comments, “The Salmon Science Expo is a science fair where visitors will investigate salmon ecology by doing experiments, observing microscopic images, creating models, and playing games. Talk directly to scientists who are studying wild salmon – bring your questions, your creativity, and your ideas!”
The Cannery’s regular public offer of guided tours and 25-minute film “Ebb & Flow: Turning Points in the History of West Coast Fishing” will also available throughout the day.
